Advanced Process Control - Chip Size Control
Challenge: Chip size control.
Solution: In the chopping stage there isn't a very precise control of the size of the chips, so it is required to separate and peal the oversized chips, in addition to the production of fines. The size of the chips also influences the impregnation, and their uniformity is important. The solution was to implement an advanced control with the aid of image analysis in the chopping and classification processes.
Result: The optimizing control, based on the characteristics of the wood, combined with the image analysis system, would establish a better standard for the size of the chips, improving the cooking and reducing the production of oversized and thin chips.
